Creating Relationships

Relationships are created primarily to track notes about the individuals involved in the relationship. Notes may consist of meetings, counseling sessions, need-to-know information, & so on.

  • Note: To create a relationship, you must have the People Edit Relationship Write (for the necessary relationship type) security access.

First Person vs. Secondary Relationship Members

Relationships consist of two or more people. The First Person relationship member is often the individual the relationship is centered around. There can be only one First Person (or Primary) member within a relationship, but an unlimited number of additional people can be added as Secondary Relational Members.

Relational Members typically create notes regarding the First Person. For example, in a counseling relationship, the First Person is typically the person being counseled. This allows for multiple counselors to be involved as Secondary Relational Members if necessary.

However, in a relationship where there are two people being counseled or mentored, the First Person is often the counselor/mentor. For example, in marriage counseling relationships, both husband & wife are counseled. Since there are two people, they have to go in the Secondary Member Area. The counselor can be added as the First Person.

Another relationship example is when one person is being counseled by several different counselors. For example, if the church has an intake advisor responsible for following the relationship & other counselors (such as substance abuse & spiritual) are also working with the person. In this case, counselors are added to the Secondary area.
